Yes, that’s possible on the 3.029 m high glacier the Kitzsteinhorn.You can now combine the best of two seasons: skiing in the morning in snow, whilst diving into the lake of Zell am See in the afternoon!
Summer skiing on the Kitzsteinhorn
The “roof” of Kaprun/Zell am See is the only place in the Salzburger area where skiing in July is possible. Always check out the final date on kitzsteinhorn.at. Also many mountain restaurants are still open and provide excellent opportunities for food and beverages.
Next to skiing, hiking on the Kitzsteinhorn is ideal in summer. Many hiking routes provides excellent challenges. Especially on hot days, the hiking in the mountain is perfect as temperatures are lower. In summer there are many guided hiking tours, almost every week with an experienced tourguide. Especially the trip from the Kitzsteinhorn to the Maiskogel we can recommend: approximately a 4 hour hike, that can be done with the whole family.
On the Kitzsteinhorn "downhill" mountainbiken is the thing to do. An experience you can undertake on your own as well as with a guide. There are 3 freeride trails with a total length of 12 kilometer and 1500 altitude meters! For Voor Uphill mountainbikers the beautiful "Astenweg trail" leads you over the Maiskogel to the Langwiedboden. The tickets for the lifts are also valid for mountainbikers. Moutainbikers can use the lift to the Alpincenter, 2.450m, for free.
